Collecting Sports Memorabilia
The other day I saw on TV the worst case of Sports memorabilia collection. One man painted his car with the colors of the Barcelona Football club. The design was horrible. It didn’t even look nice at all. I don’t understand how someone can cross all the limits just because they are a fan of a football team.
Recently I have realized that the football industry and the Sports memorabilia industry has changed a lot since David Beckham started to look more as a supermodel than as a football player. Before it was all about how good a player was in the field and not about how famous he was. We supported our favorite team going to the matches , now you show your support buying all kinds of Sports memorabilia and merchandise that the club produces.
Football has become a business, it isn’t a passion anymore. Players go from one team to another just because they are offered more money. Nobody feels love for their colors anymore. I hope this doesn’t evolve into something else because I think we have reached the limit.
There are still some conservative fans that miss the old times. The other day I was listening to a friend talk about his son talent for football as an investment. He is seriously trying to train his son so that later he can play for a big team and make lots of money. He didn’t even mention about playing representing his country, it was all about money. I was really annoyed and I told him that even when I understand that he was the best for his son, I dint agree with the way he was educating his son. I told him that we should teach our sons to care about what they really like and not so much about the money. It is worthless to have a job that pays you a lot of money when you are miserable because it is not what you enjoy doing.
My son is a fan of the Barcelona club and he is getting these new ideas about football and celebrity. I really don’t like that and I´m trying to teach him what is the real joy about football. He is a good player and I think he is getting my point. I can’t say no to my son sometimes. So I go and buy some stuff from him because I know how much he likes it. I think not everything has to be old school but when the core concepts of something are being lost we have to say something. I don’t consider myself radical, I just wished that our children could enjoy the true love for sports.
